VIN ?'s
« on: February 02, 2006 - 06:05:33 PM »
Did the 1970 superbird or the 70 charger 500 have their own body code?
I know the 70 charger 500 isnt that special but does the bird have a package code if it doesnt have its own body VIN #'s?

The '70 charger 500 was just a gegu;lar charger (below R/T if i remember correctly)

'69 charger 500's were origonally R/Ts that were pulled off the assembly line and taken to creative industries for their aero-modifications, so they probibly wouldnt have a special vin#.

my info shows '69 500's & Daytona's both had XX29 body codes.
The thing is that I got a lead on a "winged" car. I dont know whats left of it. Just gathering info in case I find a partial car I can confirm what it is.

Superbirds are roadrunners...so RM23 are the first 4 digits...then either U=440-4, V= 440-6, or R= hemi. If you find a fender tag, post it and we can decode it. If no fender tag, here are some things to look for:

look for the K-member skid plate...all 440 and hemi cars have them
look for the inner trunk wing supports...they helped the rear quarter take the load of the wing. Even if they were removed, the signs of them might still be there.
look for signs of the A pillar molding, or of the vents on the fender tops.
If it's a 4 speed car, it should have a dana 60 in it.

I'm assuming that what you are looking at is a shell, with no nose or wing.

You can also get the VIN and contact the winged warriors club, I believe they have a list of daytona/superbird production.

Good luck! I've been persuing a superbird stored only a mile away from me for over 10 years..has not moved since 1987. maybe someday the owner will realize he'll never get the car on the raod again, and give in to me and sell it.

Actually my tip is about a daytona just covering all my bases. it may turn out to be another goose chase but gotta check. also gota tip on a 71 cuda  but both tips came from chevy guys so there is no tellin' what i'll find. probably a newport and a volare'. If it is maybe the newport will have a steel crank b motor.
