Hmmm.....sounds like someone is a little anti-China, if I'm not mistaken,  just a wee bit.

Wonder why...... that may not have been an appropriate remark, daves70.

Hey, I blocked out the letter. Go to Wal-mart and pick up just about anything and see where it's made. I work in the U.S.A. and how many job's do we have to lose before people here will start buying American made products? I don't have a problem buying some things made in China, but they are killing us with all the cheap labor and products they produce. Not to mention the BOMB they might try to drop on us sometime. Sorry if I offended, just my  :2cents: worth. Dave

No problem, Dave.  I can see where you're coming from.   No offense taken.  ;D

Very true though, China does have lots of cheap labor and has an edge as far as far as keeping the price down.

I don't work in an auto assembly plant or anything but I can't figure how my brother-in-law's brother works in a Ford truck plant assembling something in a door and gets paid over $100,000 per year.  I know this isn't exactly fun work but that's a lot of $$$.  I don't know what it entails so if someone out there can enlighten me I would appreciate it.  :)

And yes-thier food is good.

Hey SuperBlue,
I worked as an auto assembler for Chrysler between 1977-1984. Most of the jobs were difficult mentally, more than physically. Today with ergonomics the jobs might be easier, physically but I would think maybe even faster paced. Our line speed was around 1 vehicle/min so you do say approx 480 per shift. It sucked. It's hard to explain but its like time standing still. You counted the minutes(or # of vehicles) left till quitting time, doing the same thing over and over. We were making Cordobas, Miraders amd Imperials. One job I had was brake and clutch assembly which ment grabbing your tools, parts, and sitting in each vehicle(a real pain in the ass) literally! as they were fresh out of paint shop, no interiors.
I agree 100k a year is some cool cash but wouldn't that be with alot of overtime? An assembler in Canada makes around 35$hr which would be about 30$ converting to US $
In a way, I sometimes wish I would have stayed with Chrysler, as I would be going on 30 years seniority, or a 70,000$ handshake they are offering for people to retire earlier, but I probably wouldn't be here to write, if I had.
I wouldn't be worried about these imports. Anyone remember the Sovy, Lada? They flew like a lead ballon in the NA market.

Thanks for the info mikey1!

Yeah, I thought it wasn't the most fun job in the world, thus the good pay.  Your description gave me something mentally to envision.  I talked to my brother in law and he said the money is good but like you have to raise your hand to go to the bathroom, they have to stop the assembly line, then the same deal to get back in position.

But still, that's a good chunk of change!  :money:
