« on: February 09, 2006 - 06:09:20 PM »
I've never really have taken off the window & door chrome trim. What is the best procedure? Do I need a special too. The window trim seems especially tight.. not sure if it's siliconed.. hope not.

Pls give me any tips, advice or procedures..

We got our trim tool at NAPA for about $8.  They are a bugger to get out.

71Fish, I had great results by getting the lower windshield trim (where the wiper blades sit above) unscrewed, then just slowly work your way up from each side using mostly your hands and maybe some slight prying from the inside pushing out with a stiff plastic wedge (plastic putty knife or something along those lines).  There will be spots where the windshield adhesive adhered to the moulding, so you'll need a razor blade to help you out.  As for the rear, it's a little tougher to get off, since you don't have any screwed-in trim pieces to remove and help speed up the process.  Pretty much just use that non-marring pry tool of some sort and a lot of handwork and you shouldn't have any problems getting them out.  As for the driprail mouldings, all you need is to remove the weatherstripping and that'll give you access to the screws that hold the moulding in place.

thanks folks.. started block sanding the shaker hood & fenders already.. I'll just take it to a shop to paint. Blocking the old paint should make her look pretty straight. I plan on driving it to carslile this year..

Do not pry it off!! the clips spring up and you need a tool to hold it down while you pull the trim up a little at a time .Work your way up with the tool to each clip..With the tool it is easy and won't damage the trim.
