Whats it worth? 70 Challenger, added pics

I went to look at the car today, 6 hrs driving round trip.  It would need complete floor pans and probably a trunk pan.  Hard to tell how much bondo is under the paint.  The frame rails looked mostly solid, but I didn't want to crawl in the snow to get under the car.  The engine looked like it was just rebuilt and the exhaust looked new.  Seems like they would have done the bodywork before they put the engine in.   The Magnum wheels looked good and the tires looked new.  The guy didn't want to come down on his price.  It seems like it is worth the money with a good running 400 engine in it, but it would take a lot more to get it right.

IMO that car is EASILY worth what he wants for it!
you drove 3 hours and didnt check the frame rails b/c snow on the ground!    

Shells are selling for 2k.

If you went all that ways and did not check the rails because of snow on the ground  the car must not have spoke to you.
Probably worth the money but it sounds like you had no connection with it.

If those first pics are indicative of the frame rail condition, I'd walk away from that car and not look back.

I see 73-4 seats and instrument cluster.  With all the extra gauges the factory one's may not work. The hood may be newer also.  Does he have the slapstick that was taken out of the car?  Did you get the engine code from the VIN?  Does the VIN match the cowl and core support numbers?  Do you get a buildsheet and / or fender tag?

It look's to me like the frame rails might be very rusty and weak. Could be a money pit, but depends on what YOU want to do. The gauges must not work, and the body needs a complete resto. Good luck on whatever you decide!!!

It is a JH car, originally 318.  I did check the frame rails in the rear, they seemed solid, one thats shown in the pic did have a dent in it.  The original tach does still work, I don't know why he put the other in.  I know the engine isn't original, they didn't put 400s in Challengers did they?  I don't care if its all original, at this point I couldn't go back, too much stuff has been taken out over the years, so I can fix it up the way I want.  Thanks for all your input, I will probably buy it.  I know its gonna take a lot of time & money, but its gonna be a long term project & it should be worth it in the end.
