8 3/4 rear end supplier
« on: December 31, 2003 - 11:08:49 AM »
Hi,

Have a '72 Challenger, engine has been upgraded from a 340 to a pretty strong 440. It has the 741 rear end, open, with 3.55 gears and it in need of bearings, seals, etc.

Rather than spending time on the 741, does anyone know of a good source for a functional 742 or 489 with SureGrip?

Looks like Ring & Pinion sells them for about 950-1250 without a core. Not opposed to that, just wanted to see what other options were available.

Have found a local junk yard with an open 489 for $250.00 out of a '72 Fury (police). Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...have a happy new year!

Jeff C ???

Found one on Ebay...a 742 with the Dana Power-Lok. Now I just need to rebuild it to be on the safe side and replace the 3.23 gears with something a little more fun.
