searching a cam

I have e 318 stock and I'm searching for a cam replacement.  I was thinking of the edelbrock 2177 cam
Is this a good Idea of are there better ones??

that is a lot of durtaion & virtually no lift a far better cam would bre the Engle K k54 or K 56 , the K 54 has 214* duration @ .050 & 255 ad with .470 lift & the K 56 has 224* duration @ .050 , 272 ad & .504 lift

Engle used tro grind Hughes cams until dave wrecked his relationship with Engle , no I do not know who grinds for Dave But engle is awesome to deal with , personally I have stuck with Engle

A lot of 318 rebuilds lately.  CP's cam choice looks nice.  I have had good luck with Racer Browns cams too.  Don at FBO can help you out.  His iron headed 318 is laying down near 10's in the 1/4 with no laughing gas!  www.4secondsflat.com 

If you want to save some money then look for any year 340 intake.  They bolt right on and are a very good intake design.  The only downside is the weight.  The LD4B is also a decent choice.  Ive seen that one on a friends 318 and even with the 2BBl cam it woke it up quite a bit. 

The edelbrock cams are designed off of a chevy lifter size and are not the right cam for the larger lifters of a mopar.  Believe me the super econo one size fits all packages do not always work good. 

You need to state what your goals are with your ride.  Is this a street driver?  Do you have a quarter mile or horsepower goal?  Is this an auto or manual?  I am assuming it is for an E body...What is the rear gear ratio?

These questions will help to better determine a cam for you.

What is the highest lift that can be used without machining the heads or changing valve springs?

you should ahve clearance for .510 lift without machining but I recommend changing any 30 year old valve spring

I checked those cams out.  put them into DD2000 but seems to me the edelbrock
is still beter than those ones.  The  Hughes cams were allmost the same than those edelbrcks
Do I something wrong or is there so little difference between cams????

Take note that I'm not very technical, so I just put in the figures I found on the website and check the difference
If anybody has dynodesk2000 cams profiles I'll be glad to have them  :naughty:
