E-Body e-brake cable, etc.
« on: February 04, 2003 - 01:25:15 AM »
I'm knee deep in E -body resto...man what a project!
I wasn't going to go all the way but that dash is coming out whether it likes it or not!  I'll get some photos up in a few days.

In the meantime...I was trying to remove the e brake cable from the pedal and there is some kind of weird clip on it. I can't figure out how to get the thing off! What is the deal? Same with the switch that sets off the dash light for the e brake...how the hell does that thing come out?

Also....if I wanted to upgrade to the rallye dash will I need to change the wiring harness?

Thanks!

Mike

the wire to the park brake lite just unplugs, I`m trying to picture the 71 Park brake cable hook up it changed between 70 -71 & I have worked on both in the last 2 months but can`t remeber which is which , I remeber 70 being tpougher to work on though  ??? ::)
The harness can be adapted to the ralley dash , the ralley has the wires going separatly to the individual gauges & hook ups , the std dash uses a gang plug so you would have to get the correct ends & solder them onto the individuaol wires to hook up the ralley dash

Thanks for the reply.

The wire sure looks like it unplugs but I can't get it to budge. Doesn't look like a regular connector (like the type on the doors for the dome light) either. maybe I have some totally original anomaly that is worth tens of thousands of $$$.

Anyway, worst case I'll cut and splice the wire back together.

 :) Hello Mike,
I don't know if what Chryco said about the standard dash harness being compatible with the rally dash with some effort is true or not, but I'll accept his word for it. The rally dash has a tachometer though, so all you'll need to do is supply the tach. with +12 and a feed from the "-" side of the coil. The rally dash setup looks neat, I just wonder why they even bothered with the standard dash back then being these were sports cars.
