Are all flat Barracuda hoods able to take a shaker conversion?
« on: February 26, 2006 - 04:34:06 AM »
Bought a Cuda hood for my Barracuda but it has a few high/low points, creases and some expanded metal that have pretty much scared off every panel-beater I have shown it too.  Concensus is that an old-school panel-beater would be able to work it but not without a fairly large cost.  I have a good flat hood that came with the car so now thinking about doing a shaker conversion instead (if I can get the place that sold me this dodgy hood to take it back >:()

As far as I know all E-body Barracuda hoods are OK for conversion the shakers. Of course if you want it to look like a 1970 shaker but you have a later flat hood to start with you have to fill in the Plymouth emblem holes in the front.

Yes they are all able to take a conversion. I had a similar problem on my Challenger. I had a nice RT hood for it but it was left laying flat in some grass for a very long time an all of the under side (bracing) was all rusted. I found a nice flat hood that had some top side damage and I was thinking of doing the same thing as you, then I started looking at it. I figured out that the underside could be taken out of both hoods and I could put the good bracing under the RT hood. This was actually easier than it looks. If you do remove the under bracing you can get to the top side very easy to beat our any dents, then replace the lower side. Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys, very interesting idea there 70chall440 - I might discuss that with my prospective panel-beater.  Still can't bring myself to just run with the flat hood - that is just too much Limelight!
