8 3/4 rear-end ID for Wilwood Disc brakes
« on: March 08, 2006 - 10:27:18 AM »
I'm looking at the Wilwood brake kits and need some help.   Wilwood offers kits for 8 3/4, Dana 60 press fit flange bearing or 8 3/4, Dana 60 loose fit snap-ring bearing.  I assume from their listing that the 8 3/4 & Dana are interchangeable as far as brakes go.  Can I ID which type of bearings I have without taking it apart.  Is there some type of number or item to look for outside the housing?

The rear-end is #489 from a 1973-340 car.

Digging further, I found that Wilwood has 3 different options with two different offsets. Still haven't a clue which one to use.

DYNALITE PRO SERIES REAR AXLE KIT - VENTED ROTOR TYPE (2.72 OFFSET) MOPAR 8-3/4 • DANA 60 FOR USE WITH GREEN* NON-ADJUSTABLE BEARINGS - PART NUMBER GROUP 140-2116-B

DYNALITE PRO SERIES REAR AXLE KIT - VENTED ROTOR TYPE (2.36 OFFSET) MOPAR 8-3/4 • DANA 60 FOR USE WITH GREEN* NON-ADJUSTABLE BEARING - PART NUMBER GROUP 140-2117-B

DYNALITE PRO SERIES REAR AXLE KIT - VENTED ROTOR TYPE (2.36 OFFSET) MOPAR 8-3/4 • DANA 60 FOR USE W/GREEN* NON-ADJUSTABLE BEARINGS W/SNAP RING - PART NUMBER GROUP 140-5591-B

They also list these two green bearings:

BEARING PART NUMBER: RP400 - GREEN BEARING WITH PRESSED FIT INTEGRAL FLANGE,ALSO KNOWN AS: MOPAR PERFORMANCE GREEN REQUIRES WILWOOD KIT NUMBER:140-2117

BEARING PART NUMBER: MO400 - GREEN BEARING WITH SNAP RING "LOOSE" FLANGE,ALSO KNOWN AS: STRANGE / MOSER GREEN BEARING REQUIRES WILWOOD KIT NUMBER:140-5591

So since mine is stock, wouldn't that indicate the bearing without the snap-ring? What about the offset?  Which one?:1zhelp:

My luck with manufacturer's has been hit-or-miss.  I thought I'd try to tap our collective wealth of knowledge first.

Understandable,  I just had a very good experience as I had no idea what part I had (purchased a car with disc and narrowed dana), so they asked some questions and shazzzzam, that was exactly what I had.  Gave me the part number to order from summit as they did not sell direct or at least that part.

Hi, I have Wilwoods on the back of my Cuda. I wanted the parking brake option, so I bought the following parts from Jeg's:

950-140-7144  Mopar/Dana w/Snap Ring http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=22991&parentCategoryId=10155&langId=-1

873-A1022 (need 2 of these)  Mopar Non-Adjustable Axle Bearing with Retaining Plate, 1.563'' Bore, Mopar End http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=16265&parentCategoryId=10141&langId=-1

These parts have worked fine. Oh, my car has an 8 3/4 rear.
