Favorite Rear Axle Ratio
« on: March 09, 2006 - 11:05:04 PM »
Here is another poll...
What is your favorite rear axle ratio (for Mopars, of course).

I choose the 3.55:1 (for auto trans)/3.54:1 (for manual trans).
A good compromise for acceleration and highway driving.
Second choice would be 3.23:1.
3.91s and 4.10s would be real fun but I do drive on the freeway once or twice a week so those low gears wouldn't be practical for me.

I did not vote, to me as long as the rear end is a Sure Grip, it is OK regardless of the ratio, narrow is even better.

I have 3 favorites , for general driving I like the 3.23 , for the Silver State race I prefer the 2.73 with the OD , this allows 140 mph speeds at 1800 RPM
& for the 1/4 mile 4.30 seems to work very well

I voted for 4.10 only because it sounds like a serious racing gear.  For driving I agree with CP, 3.23. :burnout:

3.23's....or 3.55's. Both of my cars have sure-grip 3.23's now but thinking of the 3.55's with the 5-speed.

It all depends on how you drive your car, doesn't it???  :dunno: I have 3:23's, but my car is mostly hiway driven. I would never be able to handle the sound of 4:10's at 65 MPH for too long.  :o  :o  :o

I have 3:91 sure grip with 4 speed overdrive, its a great gear. It doesnt over rev at all up to 130 MPH. But i think it would if it wasnt mated with the O.D. Id say 3:55s would be the best gear without O.D.  :burnout: :burnout:

I guess if I had to choose based on a mix of driving, wanting performance and streetablity, 3:55's, and as others have already said, depends on what you are doing and how much hp and fpt you have, if you have a GV unit, 4:10's would be a blast.

The "plan" was for 3.55 (yet to find) for the street, and 4.30 (have already) for the strip.  I also have a set of 3.91s under the bench.  It has an open 3.23 gearset in it now.

I voted for 3.91 gears. Close 2nd were 3:55's for me. Like everyone the best of both worlds.
I picked 3.91's because with GV I still cruise like I have 3:05's.  :naughty: :bananasmi
