70-71 versus 72-74 Sun Visors, what's the diff??
« on: March 14, 2006 - 05:03:44 AM »
Hey Everyone, I am slowly getting up to speed on the differences between the 70 and sometimes 71 and 72-74 Cudas. I see that there is a difference in the sun visors as well. The ones that came with my car are 5" wide by 20" long. I see ones on eBay that appear to be wider than that. Are mine correct '70 visors and the wider ones for later years or vice versa? As always thanks for the input!

The 70-71's have a tab that slides into the center rear view mirror and supports the visors in the middle. The 72-4's are only mounted by the post and have no provision for the center support. Also, the pattern of the 3 mounting screws is different, the later visors have a larger mounting pattern and they will not interchange.

Here is a set of 72-4 visors....and contrary to the ad text, they will NOT interchange.

I know that the convertibles had skinner visor's than the hardtops.  As for the rest . . . still learning.

Thanks!

so did the 72-74 models retain the same rearview mirror base with the slots for the visor tips? All cuda models I have seen have the base with the slots  :1zhelp:

hemi71. Offtopic but what is your back wheel/tire combo? It's looking GOOD! Is it 275/60 on 15x8?

hmmm...ok. It's too wierd that I have seen so many 72-74's with the 70-71 rearview mirror bases. I have a couple of 70-71 bases if anyone has a correct 72-74 to swap out.

Artic...that's 275-60-15's on a custom backspace (3 1/2 BS) 15 X 7.5 Rallye. Needed the custom backspace so the tire would not hit the leaf springs, I'm running the narrower B body Dana 60 rear. Biggest tire i could have mounted on the standard 15 X 7 4 1/2 BS rallye was a 255-60-15. I wanted the "Big-Little" look, so 275-60's on the front and 215-65's on the front.  Decided against white letters for now, when i get bored with it, I'll make up a set of standard 15 X 7's with 255-60 and 235-60 BFG T/A's.
Here is a shot of it from the rear...i took it down low, so it exagerates the rake of the car a bit.

I did not know Franklin Mint had a black Cuda...I have the red ragtop, and I've seen the FC7 Cuda...I'll have to look for that black one! Thanks 71fish!
