Im pretty sure e bodies were never realy muscle cars they were actually pony cars.  Thats why they raced in the trans am series.  Mopar muscle cars were the b bodies then the a bodies.

Yes, I realise this, I meant E-Bodies and muscle cars in general. My fault was a little vague.
Yeah they raced Trans-Am, they lost badly. They could race those cars, doesn't mean they were any good.

They race trucks too........... :P You get my point.

I got you.  but at the same time why argue about that.  these are great cars no mater what engine, no mater what any thing.  Just look at them, some of the best looking cars ever.

"Unfortunately, the race Challenger T/A wasn't very competitive and the street version suffered from severe understeer in fast corners. But it could turn mid 14s in the quarter mile which would do any small block muscle car proud."...from Musclecarclub.com  ;)

And NZ440R/T, for the record, I also race a Dakota truck, so if you think trucks can't race, come on over to my home track and I'll show you.  :roflsmiley:

I agree that the Challenger just looks good on the 1/4 mile strip, unfortunately they have become so valuable that most people are now afraid to race them. Such a shame.   :walkaway:

.......and now back to the topic at hand!

I voted for the 340 but I'd vote for 3 if I could.  My first ride had a 225- slant 6. It survived my "formative" years and could not be blown up!  It was indestructable!  My second was a 340 which I think has the perfect balance of bang-for-the-buck.  Sweet running and never anything but a HiPo motor, even at the end in 73 as a smog motor.  My third would be a 440 Magnum.  I have never had a motor tach faster or pull harder and it didn't cost a HEMI's randsom to build.

I guess I'd also add the new HEMI's as a write-in.  I've got a 5.7 in my RAM and it's a supurb motor. 20+MPG on the highway and it pulls like a mother!
