« on: March 13, 2006 - 07:29:10 PM »
Hey guys, im new to the site but not to Challengers or Mopars. I own a 70 Convertible thats a long way from done so im thinking about buying another Chally. Found a 72 and i was just wondering how hard it is to convert it to a 70...obviously taillights, grill, and all that good stuff but my question is will it bolt up or dose it need to be modified? Any helps aprieciated, thanks

Welcome to the site Max . . . I believe most of it will bolt up.  Some 70 stuff was different than the other years but not too bad.  Hang around and enjoy the site.  Post some pics of that convertible too as I would love to see it!!

It has been done. If you want it completely like a 70 then the tail light panel will have to be swapped out, the reflector lenses on the 1/4s and fenders will have to be changed to the 70-71 style, you will basically need a whole 70 front end, you will need 70 bumpers, and on top of that you will have to do the interior too. However, if you just want it to look like a 70 while ignoring the little things, then you will only need to switch the tail panel and front grille, which is still quite challenging.....

Don't you need to change the front fenders to 70 style in order to fit the 70 grille assembly?  :dunno:

The '72 fenders can be used but, the headlight mounting frames will need to be used from some rusty or otherwise unusable '70 fenders. As mentioned the marker lights are different also so the marker holes would have to be cut out and welded in from the '70 fenders.

I am doing this with my '72 and found some totally junk fenders and removed the headlight buckets already. The marker lights are the next project.

What is the difference in the '70 to '72 bumpers? I thought I read it was the jack hole or something like that?
