Musclecar TV Hemi Challenger
« on: March 11, 2006 - 02:29:30 PM »
Anybody else been watching Musclecar TV on Spike channel? They're building a Hemi Challenger on it. It's coming along now real nice. They just fabbed in an air suspension system to a Dana.  :working:

I hate those guys on there.. And some of the stuff there doing is rediculus.  like why when building a custom like that with the air suspension and stuff would you put stock exhaust manifolds on I know stock was good but come I know tti has something for em.

I stopped watching them when they started trying to build 3 different cars on that show. They should try to stick to one till it's done.

It's obvious based on the type of acting/script they use that they are trying to appeal to a younger crowd, and I think that's great, nothing wrong with some new blood in the old car hobby. It's also obvious that originallity is not paramount in there build goals. However some of the methods they use are not what most quality restoration shops would support, the front frame rail repair with the support patch cobbled over the joint for instance. Sure it's strong, but geez, they could have replaced it the right way in the first place and not needed it. Lots of other things as well but oh well.

I agree I think they are doing a good job for the 1st season. I also agree with them on using those manifolds, I know for a fact it is always a real pain trying to find clearance with headers between the edge of the inner compartment or suspention. Never mind the distance from draging those headers on the ground. Using the short manifolds will allow for enough exhaust and will allow for an easy custom pipe routing down into a nice cross(h-pipe).

Air bag system should be nice too. New leaf springs are ok but I don't think that unless you use some traction control add-on. The air bag system will allow them to keep the drive system level and stiff. It will be a tight setup for sure. However I think a 4 link system would have been a better choice if they were going to do all that custom work. A 4 link would have helped on cornering as well as keeping the rear wheels to the ground.

The manifolds have more to do with sponsoring (Year 1) I think, than any other decision.
That's where they got them anyway.

I haven't watched the latest episode yet (Joy of owning TiVo) but I'll bet that shifting the motor back to centerline had something to do with it.  There's little clearance to begin with, with the factory offset let alone moving it back the inch and a half!

As to the hosts, there growing on me.  Maybe it's just familiarity and getting used to them.  My issue is that they make it look so easy the brain becomes momentarily disengaged and I start thinking I might actually be able to do that sort of stuff! Custom air ride and front subframe in 30 minutes!?!?  No problem!

I agree, the hosts could act a little more like the guy on Trucks, or the ones on HP TV.  However I am glad there is a show on TV that helps preserve the things we love the most "Muscle Cars".

You have to remember there are only so many shows where you can restore a car to factory specs. However that has been done, they are showing you a mix of old cars and new tech.

As for how many cars they are working at one time, I still generally see the two main cars, the Challenger and the catalog purchased Camaro. I mean I would love for them to just work on E-bodies and mopars only but they have to keep it happy for everyone.

I've seen bits and pieces of a few episodes.   The hosts don't do anything to keep my attention.       I do appreciate them restoring the old musclecars though...     :cooldancing:      ...Oldschool
