Chryco's NZ Engine Build
« on: March 15, 2006 - 01:58:56 AM »

Thanks for the help CP.

Here is the build sheet and a few engine photos. Anything you need to help determine what parts I need or specs ask away and I'll see if I can get them for you. I would like something that is mild, somewhere around 425hp would be ideal.  Nothing to hardcore as I want a solid running daily driver. Bigger/lumpier cam, just a tickle up I guess.

Carl

Just remembered, check the engine shops build remarks:

"Remarks: Smooth idle, approximate RPM power range 1500 to 5000 plus. Excellent low-end torque with good mid-range hp. Increased compression ratio may be required for maximum output. Designed to improve performance plus economy."

It sounds like you've got a nice stock engine rebuild.  I'm not sure about your cam selection though.  A stock hp 440 peaked at 375 hp with the 10.5:1 advertised compression ratio.  If you check the specs I think that you will find the cam in these hp 440's had more duration and lift than the specs you list (approx 268/284 duration and 0.450/0.458 lift).  Of course more modern grinds are available from Comp Cams, Ultradyne, Hughes, etc.

Bet she runs real smooth NZ, why change it? Changing the cam might not give it much more power, unless you're looking fo rthe lope, you may want to leave her alone.

Thanks guys, she does run real smooth and leaving it as-is is definitely an option.
There is enough power for me there est 400hp.

Chryco noticed the cam in a heart beat and is going to recommend a good cam for my combo.

Thanks Dimples and Matt.

Chryco....I can't get any info on the pistons mate. Sorry, that sucks, I know.  :crying: :pullinghair:
All I askd them to do was rebuild it stock and give it a bore of 0.30 over to clean out the 35+ year old chambers.

When changing the cam does that also require piston upgrade?
Or are you wanting to know piston info to pick the ideal camshaft for my pistons?  :dunno:

just trying to make sure you have enough piston to valve clearance , so no you don`t need to change pistons
