Which Carb in 71 383 car?
« on: March 18, 2006 - 12:21:34 AM »
I have a Holley double pumper (appears to be factory?) in my 71 383 automatic 727 car. I am starting to have problems with it, probably needs rebuilt. I am just wanting to make sure it's the correct carb for the car before I go throwing money at it. I have seen that some cars use a thermoquad or carter afb setup. Can anyone tell me which is correct for my car? Thanks! Sal

the 383 was avaiable from the factory with either a Carter AVS or the Holley 600 4 bbl non double pump style
get the list # from the choke flange to be sure it is correct

71 383 4bbl cuda came with holley carb :

List #R4668A for automatic
List #R4735A for automatic with shaker.

You can use a Carter too but remember both carb use different fuel
line from pump to carb (if you buy pre-bent line), and different
thermostatic choke assembly. (if you intend to use it)

I think you'll have less trouble with these carb when using stock air cleaner.

Thanks guys! I will check my carb numbers. Is this R4668A a casting number on the carb or what number should I be physically looking for on it? I would definitely like to stick with the Holley setup as it all apears to be factory linkage. Thanks!
