WHERE IS THE ENGINE NUMBER?
« on: March 29, 2006 - 02:39:36 PM »
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me with some things. I just bought a 74 challenger and I wanted to find out if the NOM engine was in there. I dont know where the engine numbers are located and I also dont know what steps to take after I find that number. Could anyone help?

I don't know if small blocks work like big blocks, but mine was on the passenger's side of the block. I could only see the numbers from underneath the car when I had the headers off. There should be a series of numbers that match the last numbers in your VIN, if it's the original engine. Also, there should be a date code of your block as to when it was built.

 Welcome aboard here too.

This might help with the engine and the other numbers locations.

1. Engine Vehicle ID pad.  At the oil pan rail beneath the #4 Cylinder
2. Engine Cast date, below the head passenger side below the #4 Cylinder
3. Engine assembly info, drivers side front under head.
4. Engine Cast number, drivers side below head under the #5 and 7 cylinder.
