my old '69 Dodge Daytona is on EBay tonite....
« on: March 19, 2006 - 07:02:29 PM »
This '69 Dodge Daytona is on EBay now....it used to be mine about 10-12 years ago....my dad liked to drive the car and had his picture taken inside the Chrysler Plant while it was still in it's "Petty Phase".......a very interesting car with lots of storys to tell....I purchased the car from the original owner in Pa. thru a friend of mine......my dad kept this picture hanging in his coin shop till his death a few months ago...we drove the car quite a bit for a few summers, even drove it to the MOPAR Nats one year....it really ran with the Six Pak....

'69 Dodge Daytona, 1st Winged Car shipped in the USA!  As seen in Aug. '05 Hemmings Muslce Machines and Speedvision TV!

This is one of the rarest cars ever produced, the Winged Cars couldn't be given away back when they were built, now they are a hot commodity. This Daytona is the 1st Winged Car shipped in the USA and was not registered until June 6, 1972, they sat at the dealerships for a long time. The original owner had the car until Jan. 19, 1990 when it changed hands twice (never registered) and the current owner bought with about 6,000 miles on the odometer. The mileage the original owner put on the car were really fun and hard miles. As of today, there are 9,246 actual miles.

It left Creative Industries with 17 miles on the odometer, on Sept.19, 1969 the "Multiple Carburetor" 6 SIX PACK was installed by the selling dealer, 32 days after it was shipped from Creative Industries.  Shope Motors did the installation and it was noted in the Warranty Book and covered by Chrysler. This Daytona is 1 of 3 documented 6 Pac Daytona's.

The car has a great history; it left the factory painted R4 Bright Red (1 of 75), and when the car was 6 weeks old, it was painted Plum Crazy with a Gold wing. In 1974 it was painted to match Richard Petty's car and appeared in several calendars and automotive books. It was last on the road in 1977, the Pennsylvania inspection sticker is still on the windshield, then it went into storage until 1990.

The car was taken back to it's original state from April to July 1995. The motor was gone through, everything was in good condition. The transmission was also rebuilt. There is NO filler in the car, the car was stripped to the bare metal and then repainted with PPG base/clear. There has never been any damage or rust anywhere on the car.

The interior is 100% original, the only flaw is 2 tiny 1/4" tears in each front seat, so small the camera will not even pick them up. Everything works except the fuel gauge, despite a new sending unit and a passing diagnostic inspection of the gauge.

The car is as original as you will find, (still has the original spare tire, never used), it's just like it was when it was new at the dealership.  There is no question about the quality and condition of this vehicle.  Chrysler has had this Daytona on loan, placed in the museum at  the Daytona since February 2005.  They then used it at the Richmond International Raceway for the Media Launch for the new Charger.  They recently returned and it is back in the owners possession, wintered in climate controlled storage.

The paperwork with the car is as follows:

Odometer Disclosure Statement
Original Title dated June 14, 1972
Original Window Sticker
Warranty Book with 6 Pac notation
Operator's Manual
Broadcast Sheet
Envelope from Creative Industries with spare parts
This is a numbers matching car, Galen Govier and many other prominent "Mopar People" know it too. This is probably one of the most correct Daytona's in existence, plus, it's the 1st Daytona shipped in the USA, the 1st USA Winged Car period!

Very cool car, can't believe they didn't sell back in the day, I know lots of people to this day who loved the winged cars. I know I always did.

That sure is a nice Daytona.

Here is a piece of trivia...
The 1969 Dogde Charger Daytona, at 226.5", is longer than a 1969 Cadillac Coupe and Sedan de Ville (225.0").
