Which place is better for body panels ?
« on: August 06, 2006 - 08:17:06 PM »
Time to order the sheet metal. Which company has the best body panels. I'll need trunk floor & trunk extensions then outer wheel house & 1/4 panel skin on one side & 1/4 panel patches on other. Also door bottom patches. Goodmark? YearOne? ABS? Paddock?        :clueless:      There's a Goodmark Dealer near me , does that save on shipping costs? Has anybody heard when the fullsize 1/4s are going to be available? I probably need one of those instead of the skin.

From what I understand most the body panels with the exception of the factory style that goodmark sells are all made by the same company. If you get them friom Goodmark, make danm sure you inspect the pieces when they arrive before the driver gets away. The UPS store where I do all my shipping didn't open the damaged Chrysler New Yorker sized box cause the driver from BAX Global trucking said it isn't necessary to inspect, if there are any problems they will take care of it. Yeah right, I'm out the price of the panel and the shipping. I'll never buy from Goodmark again or use anyone who ships through BAX trucking cause all they could say is I should have inspected it and noted the damage on the ticket, they said it's my word against theirs. The Q panel was loose inside and all they did was cram a few empty boxes in with the piano sized box to keep it from bouncing around. Sorry for the venting but it's good to share horror stories of some of the great service some of the companies offer. I'm sure there are a lot of reliable panel sellers out there, I did buy a patch panel from Sherman and it came quickly and wasn't dented.  :2thumbs:

I guess first you need to get a quote from your local dealer & see what they want for their parts, even if they are a little higher on the base price if you are not charged good ole S&H you will probably come out ahead not to mention the hassle factor if something comes in wrong or damaged.

My advice would be to shop around and if there is a supplier or distributor near you checkthem out first,if not check all the suppliers you can think of . For your trunk, the main floor section from year one comes as a package with the gas tank braces for around 150, which will save you some $$ if buying seperately.  The trunk extentions from auto body specialties are about the lowest.  Sherman has excellent products that you can save some $$ on by buying through one of there distributors. I"ve purchased severla Sherman parts though North Coast Muscle Car 1-800-233-6573 and even with there shipping cam out ahead of buying direct from Sherman.  Good mark,, well I've hear to many horror stories and wont ever consider them. You can also try other suppliers such as Columbia PArts or Adeals (on  :ebay:). So you see there are plenty of places to go for what you need,, just take some time study carefully and shop around. Befor you know it youll be welding your happy little heart out.   :clapping: :working:  Good luck and have fun,  gee I love this hobby
