Heater Duct Door Foam??

I am working on restoring my heater ducts and when I removed the doors the original self adhesive foam disintegrated in my hand. Anyone have any advice on restoring these doors. Went to a local foam dealer dist. and they didn't have anything close. Should I just blast the doors and not worry about the foam? Is there a suitable substitute?

You may want to ask Jules at http://www.julesdaddio.com/.  Someone in another thread recommended him and he restores heater boxes.  Also, Home Depot/Lowes sells weatherstripping foam with adhesive on one side.  It's not exact, but it'll work.

That old foam just doesn't hold up to father time as mine did the same thing as your foam.  I would go home depot route as crcarch suggested.

I used the thinest foam I could find at the craft store. Used spray on adhesive to hold it in place. So far so good, working on the 6th year now. Just another option.

there's a guy on ebay selling kits, 35 for heat only(with fresh air box foam inc) & I think 52 for box with a/c, if I see the add again I will post the link, I need em all too! Rich.

I found rolls of CLOSED CELL foam at the Ace hardware store and sheets of thin Closed Cell foam at the craft store Hobby Lobby

It is a nice kit and everything fit well.  I did a total rebuild on my heater/AC box so it was nice to have everthing all in one kit. I think it was like $60 for the whole thing.

This kit looks awesome thanks for all the help guys, I never knew this kit even existed and I surf eBay all the time. I'll let you know what I think when I install it hopefully this weekend! Sean

Well, I got one and it sure is a nice kit.  Pulled the box last night and realized that a past sin had come back to haunt me.
I've owned her since 1983.  In the fall of 85, I started getting the sweet smell and wet floorboards that only a busted heater core can give.  I spent an entire Saturday taking it out and installing a new one.  Even then the gaskets were already history.  So being in college with few $$'s, I got out the trusty silicone and sealed her up, including the seal to the firewall.  Fast forward 21 years and you've got a real mess on your hands. 33 year old fiberglass doesn't stand a chance against modern sealant and a strong arm.  Now, once I cut everything apart, I've got to reglass the box!  FUN, FUN, FUN!!
