Tailight buckets
« on: June 13, 2006 - 01:55:50 PM »
What is the best way to clean up the tailight buckets as well as the ones for the side markers. Do the get a coat of paint ? if so what color? or just cleaned up?

I glass bead blasted mine and then used some reflective paint although I think they were plain from the factory.

All I did was soap and water them. Then finished off the trunk and the back of the tailight buckets with a textured trunk paint. It may not be original but looks great.

I cleaned and scuffed my set down and finished them off with a coat of duplicolor aluminum paint. I have a picture somewhere, when I find it I will scan and upload it......

If you want to keep them as original as possible then just clean them up and put them back on. Here is a picture of my buckets with the aluminum paint....although it isnt original, I feel that it finishes the trunk better than the factory finish.

You could also try some stainless steel paint in an arosol can. It will have a closer grey appearance. Then clear it with Diamond crystal clear (from eastwood).

I'm fairly certain that comes out of the housing as an assembly with the lamp
socket. Gently pry between the housing and the socket outer ring.  Jeff
