Question about K frames
« on: March 27, 2006 - 08:35:46 AM »
I think that I know the answer to this but I was recently questioned about it and someone who I trust to know had a answer different than mine....

How many K frames did the E bodies come with from the factory??

I say three.....

One for the six

One for the V-8's

One for the Hemi or 440-6

Am I correct on this or am I wrong??

Will my 70 Barracuda that came from the factory with a 318, accomodate a 383 with no changes?? I say yes!
69 RoadRunner (clone)
70 Cuda 383 4 speed (project) one of the first few off the line at Hamtramck with a 1017XX VIN
70 Cuda convertible 340 4 speed (project)
70 Barracuda (project)
71 GTX 440 4 speed (project)
72 Cuda 340 3 speed (project)
3 Harleys
95 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4

Better add a forth one to those "yes" votes.  All you need is a sb to bb engine mounts courtesy of Shumacher.
1973 Dodge Challenger......................The ongoing project. (00/----\00)
1991 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin-Turbo....The sunny day cruiser (RTBoost)
1990 Toyota Celica GT Liftback...........The new daily & winter driver.

There is also a TA/AAR k frame. Don't know what's different, but something is.
A v-8 frame will hold any v-8, just change the mounts.  Factory mounts are fine if you don't want to pay the $$$.
There is a company that makes mounts to put a v-8 in the 6 cyl k frame, but the 6cyl k frame is ugly.

For correctness you are right but all the small block, big block K frames including 6Pak are identicle. There was a little oval tag installed on the 340 6Pak and I'm not sure what the minor differences in the big block 6pak cars were. And of course the Hemi and slant six share the same K frame.

The hemi and /6 k frame being the same was a joke?  I'm crushed, demoralized, and crying in my beer. I guess I'll have to stick with my 452. Didn't notice the little guy laughing the first time, but I did know they were different.

:walkaway:  Sorry P6P, hey you have the same initials as me! Anyway, there are actually only 3 to be exact, the Hemi, other V8's and the 6. Now for correct K frames, there are more options between the V8 K frames but as far as what will fit, they are the same. My 66 Belvedere 318 K frame will fit my 70 Satellite but has a couple of differences, has a couple of studs for the steering box instead of bolts and the idler arm isn't as heavy duty.

74 and later K frames?  :clueless: You got me.   :dunno:
