Koni shocks?
« on: March 27, 2006 - 04:24:00 PM »
I finally got my Espo 2-inch over leaf springs, and they are GREAT!  Now I'll take everyone's advice and ditch the airshocks.

Looking around it seems like KYB and Edelbrock are decent shocks, but non-adjustable.

The good shocks seem to be Koni, QA1, and Strange.  I was looking at Koni (cheapest of the 3, and red shocks under my black paint should look good), and found the only choice for an E-body in the rear is part # 82-1255 classic shocks.  They are adjustable, but not on the fly.  Is Koni good?  Are these the ones to get from Koni, or are you guys running different Koni rear shocks?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree and need to jump on the more expensive QA1 or Strange to have good adjustable shocks?

The reason I want adjustable is not to jack the rear end up to the clouds, but so that I can experiment with taller tires, like upgrading my Hoosier 275/50/15's to 60's, going from a 26" tall tire to a 28" tall tire, and not ripping off my new quarter panel in the process.

What do you think?  Thanks.

I have the 2" over and man do I love it!!!   :cooldancing:  I may be off the mark here, but these adjustable shocks just stiffen it up a bit, not raise it. I hear good things about KYB. Sorry I can't help more...

By adjustable, you can adjust the compression and rebound.  You can not change the height with them as you could with air shocks.

forget the edelbrocks...too soft.
I have non adjustable konis on both of my cars, no complaints.
Koni dials them in for specific models.

I've got adjustable konis but i've never changed the settings as they worked great out of the box.

This maybe just my car but I had to drill out the sleeve inside the bushing at the bottom of the rear shocks. The one that slides over the mounting pin which hangs off the plate underneath the springs. The diametre of the sleeve was slightly too small.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has found this.
