Wanted - 71 Challenger tailpanel reflectors
« on: April 07, 2006 - 10:07:36 PM »
Does anybody have any of these or full panels at a good price?  What I really need is the drivers side outer but might take more.

I can't find reproduction ones so if you know of somebody reproducing these, let me know.

If you try to take these off a tailpanel, from experience these can be fragile and I'd suggest cutting them off by sawing through the adhesive with something like piano wire.

Man, sometimes I think you're working on MY car.  I just bought a standard tail panel on ebay for 9.99 plus shipping just to get the reflectors. The actual tail panel was damaged on the left.  The way I got the reflectors off was by dripping "GooGone" into the edges from the back side.  If you wait long enough (this takes patience) they will literally fall off.  I didn't wait.... so when I took them off, tiny pieces were still stuck to the panel and they broke off. Luckily, I was able to save all the tiny pieces and I superglued them back on then polished the lenses.  Didn't come out too bad but certainly not perfect.  For me, imperfect reflectors were better than no reflectors at all

I'm actually trying to figure out how to get them back on. The reflective foil and no where to glue to has me puzzled.

OK, if you or anybody else comes up with a good one, let me know.  Hey Romi, I'm working on the trim pieces next :-)

What I ended up doing was going back to the original set I had (i picked up a complete tailpanel with lenses and reflectors for $40) and am fixing the originals and duck taped over the reflectors and left them in place for blasting and all but one reflector is way bad and the others could be better.

Which trim pieces?  I want to make sure that I work on things in the right order!   :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:
Just kidding, but it sure seems like we're always working on the same things at the same time.  My next 2 projects are a SEM restoration of my interior panels. I already have my SEM kit. And I have a 4 speed console I'm going to put in. (Barry if you read this.... I'm workin on it! !  :roflsmiley:)

Hi-Jack alert!!!  :o  :o  :o

 ROMI,
I just used the SEM stuff today on my door panels!!!!  WOWSA!!!!  :wow:  :wow:  :wow: I was concerned about over-spray, and some spots seemed heavier than others, but it all evened out when it dried.  :jumping: Fantastic is all I can say. Just don't be alarmed after you use the prep stuff. That must suck the life out of them, because they look pretty bad after that.

Hey Mike, Well EVERYONE (including you) who has used the SEM stuff really likes it.  I can't wait cause my driver's side is pretty ugly right now, the part is in great condition it just looks like someone tried to clear coat it.  I might end up waiting a bit because if I don't finish up some of these projects I'll still be looking at it on jack stands in the shop when winter 07 shows up!

Dang you guys, quit hijacking my topic - especially without providing links to the other SEM Interior restoration topic :-).  Seriously, put the link in, my interior is all out right now with the seats getting recovered so I might as well do the panels too.
