msd ready to run help
« on: April 15, 2006 - 10:36:43 AM »
72 challenger with a 360.I am putting an msd ready to run distributor. This eliminates the ignition control. Therefore would I still need a ballast resistor between the voltage regulator and the +side of coil/ignition switch wire (dodge wiring diagram). Also the msd instruction show the red distributor wire tied directly to 12v ignition and to the +side of coil via a ballast resistor. My question is to anyone who has run this distributoror has experience with it, does this sound correct and what value would the resistors be.thanks for any help

yes it sounds correct , the dist MUST have 12 v to operate properly & the coil needs to have the resistor to protect it , in most cases depending on what the coil Mfg specifies for it  , generally the balast with the lowest resisitance possible will be best & increase the spark power without burning up the coil itself
