E Brake cable for 1970
« on: March 14, 2006 - 05:29:37 AM »
I am going to invest in Stainless Steel e brake set up for my '70 Gran Coupe mine have just seen a little too much of father time unless anyone knows any good resto techniques for these. When I look at the catalogs they have the 70-74 set up the same and not the set up I have. Mine looks exactly like what they are selling for '69 with the cable running all the way down the left side of the car. My car was produced in Oct of '69 for '70 sale. I'm fairly positive this is the set up the car came with off the line. Is this common?
When did they actually switch over to the new set up?

You are correct, '70 was unique.  In addition the front cable coming off the e brake assembly in the car was different between a Barracuda and Challenger, and the two rear cables were different depending upon whether you had 10" or 11" brakes.

How did you make out with the cables. I'm trying to find them for sale as well. I see a set that states they do not use the intermediate cable. Is this what makes the 1970 cable system unique? Does anyone know who sells emergency cables for a 70 Cuda. I think I only need the front and intermediate cable.

Interesting.  My Gran Coupe was also built in October 69.

70Grandecoupe did your come with the flat wrap steel casing over the cable or the spiral wire wrapping? Trying to figure out if this was a time of production thing or just what the line guys grabbed out of the box. Thanks, FY1Challenger.

Hmmm, My 70 RT was built in 9-69 and I have 11' brakes. I'll have to look at that because I've never had to deal with it. I thought all years were the same.

As strange as this sounds my ebrake set up from the most memorable parts looks like what's listed as a MOPAR 66-70 B-Body set up at in-line tube, check it out: http://www.inlinetube.com/Brake%20Cables/mopar%20B-body/BSB6610.htm

Not a 70-74 E-Body: http://www.inlinetube.com/Brake%20Cables/Mopar%20E-body/BSH7003.htm
Nothin like that.

My car also had when I bought it in '84 a '69 B Body Battery Hold Down with the zig-zag type of bar not the straight one. I could swear it came factory with that.

Don't know exactly what vendor I am gonna go with yet, but that is a way down the road.

FY1Challenger I will check on the wrapping and try and post a pic of the most different pieces. Warning car in rough shape!

Now there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I have what is listed as the 66-70 B Body EBrake set up. What's really funny is they have a section on these instructions about the E-body set up http://www.inlinetube.com/Brake%20Cables/Brake%20cable%20instruction%20sheets/66-70%20Mopar%20B.pdf
