We have a saying here in New Mexico; If it doesn't stick you or bite you leave it alone, it's probably poisonous! :eek4:

I need to learn how to post pictures ,I'd post a few so you know what a morel looks like. There are what is call a false morel which look similar but to a seasoned hunter look quite different. We split the mushroom in half length wise and soak in salt water to kill all the little bugs and then dip in eggs and roll in powered saltine crackers and fry in butter or butter flavored crisco.I haven't met any one around here who doesn't like them! One drawback is the places you find them are also home for wood ticks.Hate those little buggers!!! I'm actually recovering very well from my surgery but need to quit doing so much and just sit.

Glad your recovery is going well!  It's easy to post pics Common.  When you're in "reply" just click on the "additional options" button underneath the white text area.  From there you can browse your computer to select your pic.  If you want to add more, just click on "more attachments".  Then click on "post" and you're done!  If you have any problems, just let us know and anyone here will help you out.

In regards to "wild" mushrooms (those growing wild), it probably varries accross the country, and I certainly have no idea about other countries such as NZ. But in my area the rule of thumb is that during the spring of the year you can pick any mushroom growing and it is safe to eat, but during the fall you better know what your picking or you can be poisined. Of course proper cleaning/washing prior to preparing them to eat is a common sense thing. And they are soooo goooood.
