Why would you do this
« on: April 26, 2006 - 07:04:43 PM »
Can someone help me understand why you would plug 1 side of the engines lifter oil passages? Did they crack and then run solid lifters? This is a 340 TA Block I like to save if possible.

it forces more oil to the mains & was common with roller cams to do this

Chryco is right again! Mopar use to sell a kit that was two brass tubes that you shoved down thru the oil gallerys from the end , then it had a tool that was rounded on the end that you put into the lifter hole to " peen" the tube out of the way of the lifter. It is kind of out of date practice because the roller lifter bodies now are made so they don't dump all the oil pressure out the lifter holes.

It also kept the oil to the mains in case the pushrods bent and the lifters shot out of the bores.

I'm learning a lot for a 52 year old. I had some time today and your right on. I started scratching them and I thought it was copper. Now comes the fun part of getting them out. Thanks for the insight guys.

Behind the PLUG, you might have to thread something into the tube to pull it out. Try wedging the proper sized pipe tap in there to grab on to it.
