Feliz Cinco de Mayo!!!!
« on: May 05, 2006 - 12:52:59 AM »
Happy Cinco de Mayo everybody!
Just to clearify, it's the time when the Mexican army defeated the French at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862.  Basically the Mexican equivalant to the United State's Independence Day.  In other words, a lot of people flock the streets and celebrate quite wildly. (kinda like the Mifflin Street block party for those of us in Wisconsin.) :drunk:

(okay, I'm done posting my useless thread. ::))

I have to reasons to drink today!!! Cinqo De Mayo is one, and the other is Cornell University's slope day!! Its the last day of classes so everyone goes to the slope to drink all day. Cornell has gotten involved in the last few years and now its regulated, but we get a free concert. This year is Ben Folds, who i'm not too excited to see, and last year was Snoop Dog, who was intersesting just becaues it was him. Hope everyone else has fun today, i got about 14 hours of drinking to do now...

Must've not been much of a challenge for the Mexican Army.  :roflsmiley:

I thought history told it as, The Titanic had about 5,000 cases of mayonaise that was supposed to be shipped to Mexico.  Mexico declared the 5th of May a historic day because they really love mayonaise and since it all sank....They declared it

Sinko de Mayo............

Mexican Independence day is actually September 16th, celebrated by "Las Fiestas Patrias". Other than that the explanation was right on. Originally it was a European Army the Mexicans fought, but after heavy casualties, the British and the Spanish pulled out. The incredibly strong French army fought on alone hoping to keep Mexico as a territory for itself. In the end they had their butts handed to them at Puebla which was a main turning point in the war.

In a nutshell, Cinco de Mayo is an excuse to drink.

Jack Daniels and Root beer for me.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.

Very true...never had jack and RB though.
I drank Rolling Rock, Bud Lt., some Coronas and some Tequila tonight. Took it somewhat easy...have a carshow to go to bright and early.
