can't get my shift together
« on: May 03, 2006 - 02:01:44 PM »
Can anyone clarify this for me... I want to buy a new shifter for my ebody 4 speed.
Passon and Brewers have no stock on rebuilts because Hurst is behind bigtime. Backorders like crazy.
So, what are my options?
I've read I can buy a B body Hurst comp plus new and then add the ebody rods and levers with the double holes to shorten the shift? Is this a direct bolt in without mods?
Cause if that works, that's what I will do.
Any feedback is appreciated or ideas....Thanks......

Did you have an old one to rebuild or not have one at all. Do you really want a NEW shifter?

I bought one on EBAY. A no-shifter handle, shifter.    It's a Hurst Shifter off of who knows what.  Search Competition Plus, Shifters, 4 speed shifters etc.  If you get one with the adjustable stop bolts it'll be a bonus. I've seen some with the push to lock style and the bolt on handle type.  Good Luck, because I kept getting outbid till I bid high.

the B body Hurst is a bolt in But the levers in the shifter unit are slightly different length  so some minor tweaking of the rods may be nessisary to clear the tranny crossmember
I used a truck Hurst unit on a 4 spd converion last weekend , it worked great , just needed to make a bit of clearance for the 1-2 shift rod    to get into 2nd gear
so basically Yes the B body Hurst superr comp + shifter works , with the e body rod & tranny levers with the double holes , us the holes closest to the pivot of the lever to shorten the shift throw , once you do you will never go back to the long throw
