My Intro
« on: May 10, 2006 - 12:19:19 PM »
Hi there. My name is Brandon I work at The Tire Rack, www.tirerack.com. I have been here for about 5 years, I sell tires, wheels, suspension, brakes, lighting and some other odds and ends. I'm here for my own personal love of these cars though, I don't own a 'Cuda or a Challenger but for the last 3 months or so I have been doing a lot of research in my free time. Hopefully, when the stars line up right I will be an owner some day soon. I am still a noob though and I will no doubt have a lot of stupid questions, so hopefully you guys will be easy on me. BTW my current daily driver is an 05 Saab 9-2 Aero and my previous car was a 02 Lex IS300. I moderate the tire and wheel forums at www.is300.net and www.clublexus.com. I know basically everything about tires and wheels and a lot about brakes and suspension, as far as the work I've done myself I am pretty handy up to the suspension and basically engine, electrical, body, interior I know only the basics. So hopefully I can contribute but my guess is I will be learning a lot more then I will be teaching. Great site!

G'day Brandon, Welcome to the board from Australia.

Given your tyre expertise and my opportunistic nature, I'm hoping you can help with some tyre data?

I'm looking to run the stock 14 x 5.5 rims initially and the max size tyre I can use is a 215/70/14.  I have been checking tread width specifications and want to get the widest tread profile I can get.  The BFG radial T/As  have a listed width of 6.4 inches while the Firestone Indy 500s have a listed tread width of 7 inches.  The 7 inch width of the Indy 500s sounds good but is wider than any other tyre I have found listed so I am concerned that it might be a typo error.  Can you confirm that this width is correct??  Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Mark.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! OzCuda I'm checking on that spec, my guess is it is corect. I will PM you after we double check it, keep in mind the spec listed is measured mounted on a 6.5 inch wheel. Tread width is notoriously inaccurate too, many tire maufacturers are getting away from listing it. I am happy to answer any and all tire questions, but it might be best to start new threads and then PM me the link, that way if someone needs the same info in the future they can do a search and find it. Thanks again guys :)
