I was just curious. Should it be polished? Bare metal? Black? Thanks

They were like an anodized finish from factory, almost resembling bare metal, but they weren't.  Polished is overkill , and painting them isn't kosher..
Sandblasting makes them look ....wrong.... and ,, well,, good luck .

I have soda blasted them and then Heavily oiled them to retain original look,
but this requires maintenance. ( re oiling )

The factory units were;

A dark bare metal having a surface treament that (at least temporarily) sealed them against rust/corrosion. The color is a mottled dark gray/black semi glossy look that appears to be similar to black phosphate but it's not as flat looking. Black annodizing, blackcad plating, or hot oil dipping would produce a similar looking result.

They were not;

Painted, polished, or plated with any color bright finish.
