Alternative to Aluminum Annodizing / POR 15 Glisten PC
« on: July 05, 2006 - 08:07:51 AM »
Hey,

I am in the process of polishing some aluminum trim and I was thinking about using POR15 Glisten PC to protect the aluminum as opposed to annodizing.

http://www.por15.com/Default.aspx?TabId=133

Just wondering if anyone has ever used this stuff and how they like it.

I think it would be a decent alternative to annodizing.

Just for the record... I have not used either of them..

Re anodizing might be as cheap as POR15 depending on whether there is plating shops around your locale.  I found a guy who polishes and fixes aluminum trim who sends the parts out for stripping and re-anodizing.  It's not that expensive here.

Yep. Still lots of chrome and stripping shops (not to be confused with the other kind of strip shops)

I got a quote for about $150 for annodizing the grill and some trim. (after I already stripped and polished it. Not too bad of a price.

I just ordered a pint of glisten from POR15. I figured it would be a good alternative just in case I get a ding in in the grill at a later date. I could just strip the glisten straighten and recoat it. I had my coronet's grill annodized and a week later I got a nice rock ding in it.  :stomp:

We'll see how it works.

What I am doing is polishing the aluminum myself and then hitting it with some eastwood satin clear and it's held up for over two years and looks about the same as anodizing if you ask me.  I'm getting ready to paint a '71 R/T headlight bezel I just polished this weekend and will try and post some pics of that and the beltline molding on my Cuda.
