I dont know about spring clips but there are two simple wires on the rear bow that need to be in place that will set the position of the rear bow and consequently, the bows forward of that. Resto Rick has bow positon charts on his site. Been there for some time. Read his how-to on headliner installation. It is much more detailed than most I any others I have seen.

Here is a pic of the wire that was holding my rear headliner bow in place in my '71 Challenger.  There were two of them.
