What is this part?
« on: June 05, 2006 - 06:25:41 PM »
This bracket and switch are in my leftovers box after reassemblng my '73 Cuda which was bought totally disassembled.  (Not all of the parts belonged to the Cuda!) Can anybody confirm it's identity?

that is a brace used with 3/4 speed pedals.   In the cab of the car it is on the left side of the pedals.  The wire feeds through the firewall and goes to starter relay.  It is a ground to the starter relay when the clutch is depressed.

Thanks. I was hoping it that was for that purpose as I have never seen one before.  The only thing that is unclear is that the wire from the starter relay ground terminal travels through the bulk head connector under the dash although I haven't been able to find where it ends. This bracket/switch obviously has a wire passing the other way through the firewall.

JUst make sure that you get it installed. A few years ago, a guy brought his car by the body shop to show it off. He had not re-installed the safety and when he started the car in gear, he ran into one of my body men. It's a miracle that he wasn't killed. When I re-assembled my cuda, I made sure that my safety switch was installed and worked. I learned an important lesson that day.

I'm used to starting my other car (BMW) with the clutch depressed so I'm not too worried.  However, I will install it as it is a safety device so I'm reluctant to cut that corner.

The missing link just showed itself.  The wire from the starter rely connects to this switch. When the clutch pedal is depressed it grounds this circuit.
