Need to color match Sikkens single-stage metallic paint...
« on: June 08, 2006 - 07:36:41 PM »
Hi All,

My name is William and I have a '70 Challenger R/T convertible with a 440 Magnum 4 spd.  It's a nice ride, I had it restored by Restorations by Julius in Los Angeles.  His ace body man Peter Jenslund did the paint and steel work.  Peter is Swedish and likes to use Sikkens paint.

The outside is painted in dual-stage poly, and is virtually perfect.  The inside (and I mean everywhere inside!) is painted in single-stage poly metallic.  The car was a California car, but was based primarily in San Francisco, so it suffered rust in the usual places from the salt air.

I have the dual-stage paint for touch-up, but really need the single-stage, since the brake resevoir cracked and removed paint from the inside frame rail (yes, DOT 5 will remove paint!)  I called the Sikkens dealer and they said their single-stage poly didn't do well (probably in sales) and it's not around any more.  This paint was probably put on about 5 years ago.

Does anyone know where I can get this, maybe an old dealer or body shop that has some stock?  Or is this one of those California things where they had to stop selling it here?  I have an address in Arizona if it comes to that.  OR is there another way to go with a PPG or duPont product.  I can take off a bracket or something to have color matched.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions, especially local people to the Bay Area!

Thanks!
