looking at these two diagrams i notice they connect the red and black wires together at the fusible link near the battery then run a new wire to the alt    would not connecting the red and black at the link  cause the no spark at the distributor situation

By this, do you mean with the key in the "on" position, you measure 9-10 volts on the "+" side of the coil? If so, that is good news. The only thing I could think of if that is the case is that the electronic ignition box quit on you. Still, what caused all this to begin with?   :clueless:

CHECK IF YOU ARE GETTING POWER UP TO THE BALLAST RESISTOR, IF NOT HAVE TO SEE WHY NOT IF SO CAN START ELIMINATION OF IGNITION ITEMS.
CHECK FOR BURNED WIRES AT THE STEERING COLUMN PLUG ALSO.

well what started this was smoke and a burning smell at the ammeter if you mean what caused it to blow it looked like it was very poorly installed.......... and grounded it self out     im sure i did the bypass correctly but it has no spark at the coil  ill take it apart and try agian    god i hate electrical problems
