440-6 Exhuast Bolt
« on: June 09, 2006 - 06:00:34 PM »
Need some info on what is the correct size of the exhuast bolt on passenger side (which spews coolant when you remove it). Removed it once already to install ignition wire clip , now when put it back, it leaks coolant after putting 100lbs of torque on it!!! I'm assuming it wasn't correct from the get go....anyway need bolt dimension and grade

Al,

If the bolt didn't leak to begin with, then it is correct. These bolts go directly into the water jackets. I was surprised myself the first time I removed mine.  :22yikes: What you need is some kind of thread sealant on the bolt before you re-install it.

Thanks Mike..... One question..is it okay to put that thread sealant on it, get it wet from coolant and tighten it? Or drain down the coolant and put it on and tighten it?  Get what I'm saying..concearned if it will work as coolant shoots onto it.                                                  Let me know dude....Thanks AL

Al,

At this point, I'm guessing most of the coolant has leaked out for you?  This stuff goes on the threads, but it might be a good idea to clean them(the threads) if anything else is left on there. Yes, this stuff is thicker than the coolant, so it will stop your leak problem. No need to drain if you don't have to.

yeah Mike...your'e hillarious...it not only leaked out ...it shot out like a gaiser. Anyway, I put teflon tape on it for now. Started engine for 20 min....no leak..worse case will get that thread sealer. Now I stink of coolant funny man!!!!
