Firewall ?
« on: June 17, 2006 - 09:03:47 AM »
I have been searching and have gotten conflicting answers as to weather a b body firewall and cowl are the same as the e body.  I have the chance to get the parts I need off of a 72 charger.  I will probably just cut the sections I need and butt weld them into mine.  I need to know if they are the same, or close enough that I could use them.  Thanks and I will have some updated pics of more of my progress soon.

"Chrysler designers started with a modified B-body cowl... ...Using the derived B-body cowl gave the E-body a wider track and allowed use of the exsisting K member." - Mopar Muscle Book.

The word "modified" alwasy scares me ,but it would seem close if your willing to put in a lil extra work  :dunno: That's not a lot of information ,but at least you know it was based on a B-body  :clueless:

I believe they are similar but not the same and the b-body can be used as parts.  There was a thread on this. You might be able to find it in the search.

maybe for parts but not for a restoration.

I can think of a couple of things that are different right off the bat without looking at mine.  The AC lines go through the firewall on an E-body in little round holes but the B-body has a rectangle fitting. Also the top of the cowl holes are shaped differently .  I'm talking about '71 to '74 B's compared to E's.

On the parts that rusts out around the brake booster and under the windshield wiper motor look very similar and may even be the same besides extra holes for wiring and such on B's. below that the floorboards and tranny tunnel are similar but not the same

I always thought you could make a convincing looking 'CUDA or Challenger  with the front half of a '71 B-body welded to the back half of a E.

The doors are located a little differently but the E fenders bolt right up on the top of the shear panels but the bottom dog legs are a little short. Even on the '73 and '74 B-bods with the iso suspension

Maybe you could make a good race car from parts of both instead of cutting up a perfectly good E-body,, Kind of a Monster Garage solution I guess

The section around the brake booster is what I need.  Maybe I will just get that section and  see if it will work.

how much of an area around he brake booster do you need? When searching the world,,,,, :roflsmiley: for mine i was able to aquire enough peices to puzzle one together and have some extra.  give me some dimentions and a pic of what u need and i may be able to help you out with an E bod section.  B's are totally different you could make it work but prepare yourself for alot of labor
