Looking for anyone whos done a SE or GranCoupe resto
« on: April 23, 2003 - 03:40:36 PM »
Hello,

Im looking for anyone who has done a Challenger SE, RTSE or Cuda GranCoupe restoration.  I am trying to install an overhead console and I have some questions about wiring and hookups.

Id appreciate ANY help with this. I got all the parts...how they go together is another question!

thanks in advance,
Brian

Ok...how the heck do I hook it all up!!!! :-)

I have the wiring that runs from the [3 lights+ground] to the [dome light+ground ] to a plug

I have the wiring that goes to the [ left door jam switch] to the [ right door jam switch ] to a plug

And I have the low fuel relay [4 connections - COM, GAGE, UP LAMP, IGN]

Now...how do they all connect together...and how do they connect to the main wiring harness?

Its spaghetti! And I can't seem to figure it out on the wiring diagram.

I believe we do...in baggies in the garage.  It was all there when we took it off, except for the cover to the light...found that on ebay.  However the function lights weren't working, so we'll have to straighten that out when we get there.

Our complete resto story is at the link below...warning it is very big with many, many pictures and pages.

Dude, i'll be there one of these days too !! Nice car !! The interior on my RT/SE was gutted except for the dash and seats. The overhead wiring is still there, tho unconnected to anything. An obvious obversation but i'll ask anyway - would the wiring diagram from the shop manual show the proper routing? Otherwise i'll be patient and wait for an answer with the rest of ya's. Btw what are your garage dimensions ? Has it been big enough for your restoration ? Excuse the absence but i've been on the road for three days and the only MOPAR i saw was a '78 Volare with a go-wing driven by an elderly gentleman in Midfield (suburb of B'ham).

Well yes and no. I have a service manual and a seperate wiring diagram from Jim Osborne productions. I was goin by the Jim Osborne one because its easier to handle (its like 6 pages) and ignoring the service manual.

Big Mistake.  The Jim O. one is WRONG, and frankly missing half of the wiring. Rechecking the Service manual shows it listing.  I brought everything inside tonight and i plan on laying everything out, taking photos and putting them up on my site.

Stay tuned!

I have a 2 car garage..and its not optimal but its working pretty good. The problem is the all the parts are taking up plenty of floor space.   When the car goes into the paint shop Im going to strip the garage, and coat the floors and then organize.

Scatty, I noticed your website name "BrianHagen".  Are you the Brian Hagen that was working on getting the gator grain vinyl reproduced?

Onefornow, we're finishing up on our garage now.  It is 24'X40' with 16' gabled ceiling.  We sectioned off 24'X26' for the open garage and have a 24'X14' workroom.  We only had a one car garage forever, so this is like heaven to us.

Good for you, Rev-It-Up. I get the feeling that i'll be progressing from open 13 x 20 pad with tarp-covered car thru 26 x 20 pad with carport to 26 x 20 garage as $$$ allows but i'm always open to how other folks garage/work areas are.

Scatty, glad to help. Great website too.
