Junk Yard OD Tranny Does it fit a 318-340-360

So this junk yard here has 2 complete 91 and 92 dodge truck trannys laying on the ground with converters and wants $60 for them?  Are these the 518s that I never could afford new? It looks exactly like a 727 with an overdrive bolted to the tail end and a perfect addition to another Challenger that I'm building.  Does it fit a small block?  And where do I find a diagram for the extra wires that I assume are for a lockup clutch?

You might be looking at a 4x4 727 w/transfer case bolted to it or something as the overdrive is part of the transmission and not an added on unit as you described.  Perhaps I misunderstood what you typed  "It looks exactly like a 727 with an overdrive bolted to the tail end" but that sounds like a 4x4 tranny.
Here is a picture, but you can do a goolge search and find some to compare to yourself.  I belive that they will bolt up but do require some fabrication.

Thanks! that bottom one is it!   I can make a rear mount to fit it in a Challenger. I've put 440s in Plymouth Arrows and Dodge Daytonas. so a rear mount is nothing.  Does anyone here have one of these in a e-body already?

From looking through past posts, it looks like a few people have done the conversion.  Some have transplanted the entire engine/trans combo and went the efi route and used the computer and harness from the donor vehicle.
I might go that route one day when wrecked Hemi Magnums, Chagnums and 300C are plentiful.  Hopefully the 6.1 hemi.

There were 2 types of OD 518s. One is hydraulically controlled, and one is electronically controlled. The hydraulic type is preferred. You want to look for the 46RH for hydraulic, or 46RE for electronic.

My 79' International Scout II has a 4x4 727 in it, didnt know there were 2 different kinds. looks just like the top picture

there are 2 different styles of 518s. The preference is the hydraulic, but you can buy the necessary parts for the electronic version.

yuo wil have to modify the trans mount/ T bar cross member to gain extra clearance to get the tranny in at the correct angle

Both the 46RH and the 46RE are electronic.
 
The 46RH  1st 2nd and 3rd are hydraulic no eletrical needed but OD is electric, you will need a switch for OD and a switch for Lock-up if so equipped.

A lock-up style 46RH will have a smooth pilot on the tip of the input shaft and three wires going to the OD/LU connector (middle wire is 12 volts, outer wires are grounds for LU and OD solenoids)
Non lock-up will have two wires on same connector.(above neutral safety switch).
Non lock-up can use a 727 stall converter. :jumping:

The 46RE is totally electonic requiring a computer to shift (1996 -on) all are lock-ups . :)
