318 or Hemi?
« on: June 17, 2006 - 09:08:03 AM »
Going to look at a motor, hopefully Monday.A guy at work father in law apparently bought this new around 1970 and is still in the crate. He knows nothing about cars, but swears it has sparkplug holes in the valve covers.I talked to the son who has it in a barn, and has never paid attention to it,and thought it might be a 318.What are the chances this motor will be okay after 35 years? And if it is a 318,is it worth anything?

IF it is in a crate and out of the weather it may be fine. Chances are  the cylinder walls may have some rust but since the motor hasn't turned over a honing may clean it up. If it is a hemi, you just paid for a year of college for your kids. Keep us posted

Kinda sucks, cuz nowadays kids come home after the first year of college saying, "I'm a pothead alcoholic who is on academic probation..." Imagine throwing away a perfectly good vintage Hemi just so your kid could party hard-y...

College tuition has got to be one of the riskiest investments nowadays...  :eek7:

Bore and stroke it 101 cubic inches and you're set  :naughty:   Too bad, but they were right on with the spark plug location and nearly right on the cubic inches...
