Mounting specs for a trunk spoiler

Does anyone have a template or correct measurements for mounting a trunk spoiler?

Sorry I don't. Believe it or not, I just eye-balled mine. You can get a pretty good feel if you have moved it back too far. It was REALLY scary drilling those holes in the trunk lid though.        For what it's worth, my spoiler is now matte black(came to my senses).

I also eyeballed mine to roughly match what everyone else was doing ,about 1 cigarette pack length from the edge to the post on a 'cuda  Certainly is scary putting that first hole in ,but by the time you get to the 4th one it's not so bad ,and by the 8th you hardly notice you were off by half an inch the first time  measure once cut twice or something like that.

I installed the brackets first and then drilled the holes which is basicaly marked the other side to match.

Do the (FPAP) First Place Atuo Products wings not come with mounting instructions?

The factory 70 & 71 trunk lids have the holes partially cut out on the backside.  What year E are you mounting it on?

The Year One instructions are something like:

1. Using a ruler, center the wing on the trunk lid. Use masking tape to protect the finish, and (I would assume) also to allow you to make marks - without touching your paint. I'd stripe the rear area with tape here just in case.

2. Measure from the bottom edge of the trunk lid, forward 8 1/2 inches (following the contour of the trunk lid) - to locate your rear mounting hole location. You now have an x and y axis. One point is the result for each leg.

3. Use the spoiler legs as a guide to find the forward mounting hole location.

4. Drill four 5/16 inch mounting holes (through the masking tape to reduce the potential for paint chipping). Smiling all the time...

5. Test fit the spoiler. Release held breath.

6. Install the spoiler mounting brackets, to the spoiler studs on the trunk underside use them to find the places to drill for your under lid brackets attachment holes (assuming your trunk is not original or NOS, in which case those holes are already there).

7. Bolt it all up...tight but not Arnold tight!

  Is it just me or does the Challenger wing look like it sits too far forward?
 Has any of the non factory wing guys/girls ever tried to place the wing farther back on the trunk lid on there Challenger? Not hanging out past the trunk, just more like how the Cudas wing sits?
 Maybe not actually drill any holes, but just seeing if it still fit, and if so, did it look better? Is there still enough support etc?

My picture is a little deceiving. It makes it look like it's more forward than it is. I'll try to get a better shot later. In answer to your question, if you go too far back with it, then the pedestals won't be sitting on a flat part of the hood. I'm not sure if I'm painting a clear picrure here, but you don't want to mount the pedestals on the part of the lid that starts to curve downward.

As MEK said it looks deceiving, like casting a rod into the ocean.

Thanks Guys, This is going to go on a friends '73 rallye and this car has been totally redone so I wanted to make sure it is installed OEM. He is getting the correct(OEM equivalent) spoiler. I have been trying to get him to join the forum but he does not do computers much. I will get some pics when we get it all installed. His car is very nice!

For what it's worth, I took some measurements of mine today. 7 inches up from the trunk lip was as far back as I could go.
