8.75 behind the 500 wedge?

my plan is to stick a new gearset in the 8.75 rearend that i have sitting in the garage behind a 500 wedge, eventually.  this crazy idea comes from the fact that i heard that it's easier to change the gearset, as i plan on having two (one for street and one for drag).  what do i do so i dont break it?  also, what ratio is good for the street (i was thinking 3.90 but that might be a bit much) and something obscene for racing.  help me out, if you could.  i'd love to run under 12sec to start without breaking stuff.  thanks, everyone.

I would run 3.55 or 3.23
 I changed the ratio form 3.23 to 4.30 in my Duster & it ran the same et at the track , the long stroke big blocks don`t seem to care much about gear ratio I have done this with other cars too with the same result , almost identical times with 3.23 or 3.91 etc
 traction is the key to breaking diffs , with slicks & ladderbars you will break it , as long as the tires spin you won`t

I have to go with Chryco on that one too... I hate seeing a motor I have a lot of money into running down the highway at 3000 rpm's or better. 3:55 or would be good all around gear. If you're going to switch the pumpkin anyway then 3:23's are the way to go. I would think that 500 wedge would be a lot like the 472 Hemi in the Challenger. I ran it with 3:54's..perfect. Just get the right slick height with the 3:55's and you should be okay.

Tall gears is what killed most the engines in the Challengers and Cudas when they were new. 4:10 cars were just crazy to drive at 65 or 70 at prolonged periods.
