Temp guage bad???

On my rally dash the temp guage is getting pulse voltage on one side but nothing on the purple wire side going to the sending unit. All others working ok on both legs.
If it is bad and I decide to buy another old one can you test them? What would you do?
Please read my post about not getting juice to the starter. I want to jump the neutral safety switch but don't want to mess up. Thanks

put an Ohm meter across both terminals on the guage , if it reads infinite ohms the guage is bad

Remove your sending unit wire & ground it. That should peg the guage with igntion on. If it does not you have bad wiring or guage, if it does, bad sending unit.
