That's kind of funny Cody because mine is exactly the same (I think).  That connector you have in your hand, in mine is also open (not connected).  I'll be interested in seeing what everyone says that is for.

(BTW, you're awfull lucky to have someone who's always there to help out.)

My 71 wiring diagram shows a rear speaker connector going into the instrument panel stero component wiring, although it indicates 4 wires, not two. I'm thinking that's what you're looking at.

Didn't the old radios have a separate vol. control for the rear speakers?  If so, maybe yours didn't come with rear speakers or it was set up for only one rear speaker.

Here are the broadcast sheet codes I found that mention speakers:

R31 - Single F/R speaker with R11 (Musicmaster AM) Dual rear with R35 (AM/FM Multiplex)
R32 - Dual rear speakers
R34 - Premium speaker package
R44 - Premium speaker electronic

I believe the orange wire is the lamp that would come on with other instument lamps, dims also.
I believe the geen/black wired plug was the radio end of the front speaker harness.  my vote shelve the stock radio & put in a cd-deck
Wife wise count yourself a lucky man.

I'm at work ond only have a body service manual with me. It only has the power window, rear speakers and tail light wiring. My Chassis manual would have the rest.  I have the rear speaker knob in my car with it's connector still on it.  I'll have to take a look at it's connector.  From the looks of your pictures, it looks like you have everything there. (silver boxes). There are some companies that I see that rebuilds those stereos and they don't come to mind right now.   It'll sound like a brand new '70s model radio when you're through.

Here's what I've found so far.

Cody, didn't you say that you met your wife when you were 18?   I think that I saw you on the Dateline NBC special. :roflsmiley:  I think that we need to call somebody.

That will help.  Thanks!

I dodn't think my car had rear speakers.  This is the wiring I found leading to the back seat and the broadcast sheet does not list anything other than R22 on it.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Cody,  Do you have the REAR SPEAKER knob by your heater/fan switches?  I think the green and black wire connector, going to the rear is for the rear speaker/s

Here are the pics of the wiring out of the 70 Challenger Chassis manual. I kept them big so that you can print them large.  Hope it helps.
