ORIGINAL BLACK T/A CHALLENGER?
« on: June 27, 2006 - 02:59:44 PM »
1) Were there any T/A Challengers delivered in black? Just curious cause in all the years I have been lusting over mopars I don't ever remember seeing one.

2) And as a side note: does anyone have pictures of a 72-74 Challenger with a T/A hood on it?

I owned a real triple black 4spd T/A several years ago.....not sure about the numbers these days, but there were very few made....

I have personally seen over half a dozen, but I didn't know how many there were officially.....I always heard there were 21 made.....not sure who decided on that number though :dunno:

There was an article out several years ago, it mentioned that only 27 or 28 pink T/As were made. We have recorded 67 pink T/As so far, so wherever the data came from it was flawed. The only way to know exactly how many were made in each color would be to document evry one made. We are making progress, but it is not likley that we will ever get complete information on even 2/3rds of them.

That does not keep me from trying though.

Barry,
...the 28 pink T/As was derived from Chrysler information years ago....they claimed at one point in time that 1% of 1970 models were painted pink, which would be 24 T/As and 28 AARs, but those numbers, as you said, were proven inaccurate years ago....no one really knows the answers, or if they do they certainly aren't telling ;D.........I always heard 28 pink T/As were made, but at one time I knew of 23-25 myself....I knew a few surely didn't make it

your registry is a very valuable asset for the Trans Am hobby....thanx for your efforts

Yeah the whole "pink T/A" thing was apparently based on sales percentages of all JH models that were painted pink. Someone evidently applied the number to possible T/A production to arrive at 28.

It does not work that way though.

Since Panther pink was a mid-model year introduction that came out shortly before the T/As did, it is sure looking like the most common Challengers in Panther pink are the T/A models.

Research continues............
