radiator questions
« on: June 25, 2006 - 09:25:03 AM »
I just had a few questions about cooling for our cars.  My 73 was originally a 318 3 spd car with not AC.  According to the Paul Herd book it should have a 22 inch radiator with no shroud, which is does.  Now if I want to put a shroud on can I use any 22 inch shroud from the era.  I saw year one has a 22 inch shroud but it is for 66-69 B body I think.  Also are there any special brackets or mounting stuff needed to put a shroud on.  Next can I easily convert to a 26 inch radiator or do I have to modify  and cut the rad support?  Any thoughts?

the 22 " shroud should fit , you do need special brackets & tabs to snap into the side of the rad core to mount it though
the 26" will physically fit without cutting the support but you will need to drill holes in different places in the support to bolt it up , even with the smaller opening the extra volume of the 26 " rad will keep it cooler

You can always get one of these and weld it in.  $95, but it'll look stock.
