What are these holes ?
« on: July 12, 2006 - 10:27:54 AM »
I have an automatic transmission console that has 5 holes drilled in the top front of it.  They are perfectly drilled and look factory to me.
Does anyone know what these are for?  Maybe an 8track player or cassette?
Or are they left over from some aftermarket bracket for gauges or something

Here's a pic

I would be inclined to belive they are from an after market bracket ,never seen 'em before.

My guess is a microphone. Either that or as you said after market gauges. :2cents:

I am thinking along the lines of what NZ stated.  I've seen a lot of microphone attachment holes up front on these consoles, so chances are it was some sort of radio extension component. :2thumbs:  If it were a gauge cluster, usually there's just two or three holes drilled for the pods. :2cents:

Hard to say if it's original or not.  :dunno:

That looks right about where my cassette recorder thingy is mounted on my 72 Chally. http://www.moparnuts.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2295&d=1136648076
I haven't removed it from the console yet so I can't say for sure if that's what the mounting hole pattern looks like. Anyone else have one of those cassette recorder things that could say for sure?

I've seen a lot of aftermarket stuff (guages, CB's, fans etc...) attached by the owners to that area of the console.

I think 2 holes up there would have been for the cassette option. That looks like someone might of had something after-market in there. Maybe a gauge pod?  :dunno:

I believe they are for the cassette recorder, a friend had a 72 Cuda with one and he took it out, can't remember how many holes there were.

It's just that they are so perfectly lined up and strait up and down like other holes for mounting and such
