this is not a ricer story or race so sorry but still it was fun! i grew up in a small town in idaho, 3000 people(more like 2200!) everybody knew everybody, as kids we grew up listining to our dads stories, about who had the fastest car, as we got older and got our own cars,(this was in 95 but we wished it had been the 70's!) we liked to go and race them out of town by the airport. well the same kids that use to fight my dads car is faster, was out racing! there were a couple of mustangs, to many camaros, and only 2 mopars! mine and a 70 road runner 383. we had our own little race club! who ever won was called the top dog! well a friend had a 70 camaro 427 that was the top dog, then they went down from there, u had to beat a slower car to move up and race the top dog. there was a 70 nova, u know the kid that dad pays for everything! well his dad bought him this car 350 4 speed, well it just so happens that this was the kid that always said his dads car was faster than my dads so i really wanted to race him bad! so i finally got to race him, i had my 70 barracuda, 340 new rebuid, and just found some 4.56 gears in the junk yard, i found the motor at a machine shop i worked in during the summer of high school years, it was rebuilt but nobody came to pick it up so i got it for $8oo i was so happy! i had a nitrous kit that was from the old motor i blew up, so i found a used aluminum int, headers and a carb nothing fancy at all! i found him and about 20 cars would line up along the road kind of like americam graffiti! and shine there lights, well we took off and i was ahead till about half way and he beat me. so i lost, but i said lets do it tommowrow night, he agreed, my friend that had the 70 camaro that was top dog knew i had nos, so we hooked it up and wen't for a test drive and he said holy shi! what a diff! i found the kid in the nova and we raced i run her threw till about the half way and i had to shut it down gears to steap(with the nos what a diff in the revs!) but i had him by at least 6 car lenghts!(letting off way before the end) we pulled into the parking lot at the grocery store and he said what did u do ? i said adjusted my timing! lol he said well u didn't have to put your brakes on to rub it in ! latter we told him what i did and he laughed. i never did get to race my friend for the so called top dog he would not race me and it ended up costing our friendship, he hated to lose and we both knew whose was faster! still to this day i try and talk to him when i go back there but he won't! me and my biggest enemy 70 nova ended up being good friends after our race! i really screwed up i could not get another race after that! i was the one and only person to have or use nos, some had no idea what it was! a couple of us went' to the track for the first time(an hour away) and i ran a 7.24@98 mph no slicks or stall(no money! at 5800 feet not corrected 8th mile track) the nova ran 9.08, and the camaro that was top dog ran 8.78! my cheap cuda won! the camaro had 9800 dollars in it i had 3400 including the car! man was and still is pissed! i know my car is or was never the fastest car on the planet,(dad always told me there is always somebody bigger, badder, and faster, don't get a big head) but man i sure cleaned house those 2 summers! after that we have all got married, kids or moved away. i was just talikin to the guy in the nova and he said nobody races anymore except those stupid ricers! and there not fast! it was our own little time machine into the old days! and it sure was fun! i have had stuff happen with the riccers but they just make me to mad to deal with! thanks for reading some of my good memories!
